The chocolate world and the underwater world have always flowed together for Guylian. When it was founded, the maker of the world-renowned Guylian Belgian Chocolates distinguished itself by creating chocolates in the shape of seashells. As a way of giving something back to consumers and the environment, Guylian has been the major sustaining sponsor of Project Seahorse since 1998.
Every time you buy a box of Guylian Belgian Chocolates, you are supporting Project Seahorse.
Project Seahorse and Guylian agree on the importance of seahorses as a sign of quality – whether it's for healthy coastal seas or fine Belgian Chocolates.
Since 1998, Guylian has donated over 1.75 million Euros (CAD $2.6 million) to support our work. Besides this financial contribution, Guylian helps raise awareness around the world by targeted outreach activities, such as seahorse photo competitions and exhibitions, school education programs, and other promotional activities.
They also include conservation messages on the millions of boxes of Guylian Belgian Chocolates sold worldwide every year, on their website and through their social media.
Guylian sponsors the biennial Seahorses of the World Photo Competition, which brings together the best underwater image-makers from around the world. All of the amazing photographs entered into competition are donated to Project Seahorse. We use the images for our scientific work and to promote seahorse conservation.
Guylian has been recognised multiple times for their substantial contributions. In 2019 they won the Corporate Social Responsibility Frontier award at the travel retail industry’s most prestigious event, the Tax Free World Association convention, in Cannes. In 2015, they were awarded the Corporate Social Responsibility Award by the Royal Belgian Committee for Distribution.
