Project Seahorse brings marine conservation message to Times Square

Project Seahorse and sponsor Guylian Belgian Chocolates are bringing a marine conservation message to New York's Times Square this autumn. For six weeks in October and November, the organizations will run a jumbotron advertisement encouraging people to "Get it right for seahorses and we'll keep our oceans alive."

The 15-second video, which will be seen by as many as 1.5 million pedestrians each day, features colorful images from the Guylian Seahorses of the World Photo Competition. It directs passersby to visit http://www.projectseahorse.org/2010, a campaign website that introduces them to seahorses as flagship species for marine conservation.

The website, which is optimized for both smartphones and computers, educates audiences about the importance of marine ecosystems and the threats posed to them by shrimp trawling and other harmful fishing practices.

Visitors can send Project Seahorse e-cards, donate online, or discover Guylian Belgian Chocolates. Proceeds from every box go to Project Seahorse's marine conservation work.

The video will appear hourly on the CBS jumbotron at 42nd Street between 7th and 8th avenues from Oct. 16 - Nov. 30.
