Fantastical Fishes: Seahorses, Pipefishes and Seadragons into the Future

SyngBIO 2017, the third meeting of researchers and other professionals working to understand the unique biology and conservation of Syngnathid fishes (seahorses, pipefishes, pipehorses, and seadragons) will be held May 14-19, 2017 in Tampa, Florida (USA) (hosted by The University of Tampa and co-hosted by Project Seahorse).

New seadragon species discovered

Researchers at Scripps Institute of Oceanography have discovered a new species of seadragon—the third known to science. The researchers, whose paper was published this week in the journal Royal Society Open Science, used genetic testing of museum specimens to identify the new species, Phyllopteryx dewysea, which is thought to have been previously mistaken for the other two known species, P. taeniolatus and P. eques.
